Allie's first summer was a busy one! She did an amazing amount of travel for a 2-3 month old! And, I can't say enough about the adventures of traveling with an infant! Many lessons to be learned.
Our summer travels began with a trip to Bar Harbor, Maine. This was Allie's first flight, and she was a whopping 8 weeks old. Now, I must say that although it was probably not the best idea to schedule her first set of shots the day before flying out to Maine, Allie did wonderful! She basically slept the entire flight (thank goodness). The challenges of breast feeding on a plane can't be overstated, however that doesn't compare to the challenges of getting all the "stuff" that you need for a newborn through the airport....the luggage, the car seat, the car seat base, the stroller, the diaper bag, the breast pump, etc. (and don't forget Daddy's golf clubs). But, we did survive, and we learned a few tricks of traveling along the way.
The week after we returned from Bar Harbor, we were then off to Charleston, SC for our second genetics meeting of the summer. Now, traveling with an infant through an airport is not easy, but it's also not easy to make a 5 hour car ride with a little one. And, of course, the car is packed to the roof with luggage, strollers, the Moses basket, etc., etc. And again, Allie was great...she slept quite a bit and allowed us time to find a Starbucks for those times that we really needed to stop and get out of the car.
After the meeting in Charleston, we made a quick weekend trip over to Kiawa Island where Allie got to make her first trip to the beach (I knew there was a reason that I bought that tiny bathing suite, cover-up, and sunglasses when I was about 4 months pregnant!). Although the beach was a bit windy for her, Allie absolutely loved the pool and proved herself to be a true bathing beauty!
Allie's final trips of the summer were 2 quick trips to Alabama to meet her great grandmothers...special moments for all of us!
