Allie's first circus!

It was finally that time….time for Allie to go to her first circus! I bought the tickets months ago and we kept it a secret until just a few days before. Allie kept telling me how excited she was to go see the ringmaster, the trapeze artists, the tightrope walkers, and the tigers! And, of course, we got to see them all! When we arrived, we found that I had unexpectedly purchased the “Circus Celebrity” seats….this meant that we actually got to go out onto the circus floor during part of the performance….it was great!

Can’t wait until we can take our little man with us next year!

"Father-Daughter Dance" 2012....well, sort-of

One of the highlights of Allie’s year is attending the Father-Daughter dance at Druid Hills Golf Club with her Daddy each February. David and Allie attended their first dance together when she was just 9 months old.

The second year of the dance, Druid Hills had to change the date of the dance due to winter weather, and David was unable to take Allie. My dad, or “Pops”, as he’s known to Allie, drove over from Albertville to take her to the dance. This is a night that Allie and I will never forget….it is very special to us, as Pops passed away just a mere 8 weeks later.

Last year, Allie and David were able to attend the dance together again and she had a fantastic time! The best part of the night was when her Daddy got her a ring pop! It was the first sucker she ever had and she STILL talks about that ring pop!

We were all so excited for this year’s dance. I purchased Allie’s “fancy dress” months ago, and we planned our travel down to Atlanta specifically to arrive on Friday afternoon so that David and Allie could attend the dance that night. Well, unfortunately, it just didn’t go as planned. We traveled from our house to the airport in Harrisburg, only to spend 5 hours in the airport and never being able to travel to Atlanta due initially to mechanical problems with the plane and then subsequently weather delays. We had no choice but to drive back to our house in Lewisburg and reschedule our flight for the next day.

Allie was very upset that she wouldn’t get to put on her fancy dress and go to the dance with her Daddy. I was also very sad…almost in tears! But, we decided to be super resourceful and come up with our own Father-Daughter dance this year!

When we got back home from our long day in the airport and the car, Allie put on her fancy dress and David put on his suit, and they took off for a father-daughter date. David took Allie to get her favorite dinner…guacamole and a cheese quesadilla!

After dinner, David surprised Allie with a ring pop (which I had fortunately bought the week before just in case they didn’t have them at Druid Hills this year….she was counting on getting her sucker!). Allie was head over hills happy, but we still needed a plan for “the dance”. So, Allie and David came back home and we turned our library (or what we call our “ballroom”) into a private dance party…complete with songs by Allie’s favorite singer, Beyonce’.

Allie and David got to go to the “Father-Daughter dance” after all :-)
