Allie’s four AND A HALF birthday present….a trip to New York City!

As I was giving Allie a bath a couple of months ago, she informed me that for her “half-birthday” she wanted to go to New York City.  I was not surprised that Allie wanted to go to NYC; she’s heard David and I talk about going frequently and one of her favorite movies, Madagascar, is about a bunch of animals that escape from the Central Park Zoo.  What I was amazed at is that she concocted this idea of a half-birthday!

So, David and I decided that taking Allie to NYC for her half-birthday would be a lot of fun, particularly if we did it near Christmas time when Allie could experience New York during the holiday season….there’s just so much to see and do during this time!

A few weeks ago we loaded her in the car and took off on the 3 hour drive into the city…she was a bit impatient during the car ride there, but she did quiet good.  And boy, did she have a lot to look forward to!

After grabbing a quick bite of lunch at our hotel in Times Square, we jumped into a cab and headed up to FAO Schwartz….undoubtedly the best toy store in the world!

We even managed to snap a picture with the FAO Schwartz Toy Soldier!
Allie's first cab ride!

After the toy store, we walked only a few blocks until Allie proclaimed that she wanted to ride in a taxi again, so we jumped in a cab and headed down to Macy’s on 34st Street in Herald Square.  We made our way to the 8th floor where we got in line to see SANTA!  Only a quick hour wait in line and Allie was sitting in Santa’s lap in Macy’s in NYC!  What a special moment!

It had been a busy day already, so we headed back to the hotel for dinner and an early bedtime.

After breakfast in bed the next morning, we headed to Central Park for a carriage ride through the park.

After a bite of lunch, we made our way to Rockerfeller Center for ice skating!  What an amazing time we had!  Allie was insistent that she didn’t need any breaks, so we skated our hearts out for an hour and a half under the giant Rockerfeller Center Christmas tree.  Allie is quite good on ice skates…this was her first time skating, but after an hour she was cruising around the ice solo.  She loved it and still proclaims that this was her favorite part of the trip.

We took a short break after ice skating and then geared up for the Radio City Music Hall Christmas Spectacular with the infamous Rockette’s!  What a fun show!

After the show, we were all ready to call it a night, so we trekked back to our hotel for room service, per Allie’s request :-)

It was truly a magical weekend for all of us….hopefully next year our little Will can join us for Christmas time in NYC too!  Allie wants to stay 8 days the next time!

(And I guess after a weekend as special as this one, it’s not surprising that during her next bath time back at home, Allie asked me if we got to do stuff for our “quarter birthday”.  Where does she get this stuff???)

 Love to all,

Nikki

Could there be anything any cuter….

….than a slew of 4 year olds dressed in red tutus and reindeer antlers doing a Christmas tap dance?  I think not!

Allie’s ballet/tap class was chosen to perform a tap dance at the Campus Theatre in Lewisburg just prior to the showing of the original How the Grinch Stole Christmas.  The girls were absolutely adorable and did a great job!

I think we might have a future stage performer on our hands!

Love,

Nikki

Filling in the blanks....

Here's what we've been up to since October...

Will started big kid gymnastics class with Allie!

We got out first pets!  Meet Fin and Scales....

We celebrated our first Halloween in Pennsylvania with some wonderful friends (and Grandma and PawPaw!)

And, we took a trip to REPTILELAND! (Can you imagine a place more fun for Will than this place full of snakes, alligators, frogs, and dinosaurs!?)

Just look at the size of these snakes!

This might be the tiniest frog ever!

We have no idea what this turtle/alligator thing is, but the kids and David and I were amazed by it!

Love to all,

Nikki
